About Us

We are Pat and Henry Steen. We spend the larger amount of the year out of the UK and several weeks in Helford Passage. We owned Riverside, the next door flat, for nearly 25 years until we bought Spindrift in 2016. In 2017 we extended and renovated Spindrift for it to be our UK home and what it is today.

We thought it would be helpful to explain our approach or policy to letting. It is our home and letting, around the weeks we and our family take, of course helps to cover the running costs.

However, we know we have an exceptional and unique location and the controversy over 2nd homes forces an examination of our motivation and approach.

It would feel wrong and quite selfish to keep the property just for our own use and empty most of the year. We feel it should also bring some pleasure and enjoyment to others and it should, where possible, be used throughout the year in order to contribute to the local community and the Cornish economy. There is a social dimension.

These objectives define our approach.

Firstly, as it is our home, we wish to have guests who are nice people and who will look after and respect the property and follow the rules.

Secondly we need to provide such a good experience that it makes this group of people wish to return.

To do this we need:

- to provide a flat that is clean, comfortable, well equipped and well maintained.

- to have low off season prices to encourage high occupancy which will help local businesses and keep Helford Passage vibrant.

We will measure our success by how many guests re-book, the opinions expressed in the comments section and the number of low season bookings.

However, the most important thing to us, is that we have guests that we can trust to respect the fact that it is our home.
